Once a successful small company tries to grow beyond 50 or 75 people, a real shifting of gears becomes necessary, and many firms fail to make the transición. Thus each year many apparendy viable businesses are unnecessarily lost as they struggle with the management problems oí adolescence.

is president and chief exe- cu ti ve officer of Acurex Corporatíon, Mountain View, California. Prior to joining Acurex in 1966 as general manager of its produets divi­ sión, he served as vice president of Mail Systems Corporatíon. Palo Alto, California and as a member to the staff a Stanford University Gra­ dúate School of Busíness. Mr. Fenton received is B. S. degre? at Cornell University and his M.B.A. at Stanford.
