THE ROLE OF THE MANAGER AND HUMAN RELATIONS

Abstract

A review of the literature in management science reveals a general confusion about the role of the "manager" versus that of the "leader." As a result, a similar confusion exists regarding "managerial ability" and "leadership." Almost invariably, the discussion of the role of the manager devolves into a simple list of what the characteristics and traits of leadership are supposed to represent. In order to examine the true role of the manager, it is essential to establish a clear distinction between leader and manager.
