Abstract
This article presents a review of traditional and contemporary concepts of motivation, with a critical assessment of their validity and specific application in the field of management. This approach makes us reflect on the current adequacy and relevance of these approaches, and introduces a new element for their explanation.
In this article, we will address one of the most fascinating topics in human behavior: motivation. Specifically, we will review the contributions of the most renowned scholars in this field, especially those most relevant to management in the workplace. Why do we perform certain actions? What forces drive us toward certain behaviors? Why is it important for managers to understand the foundations of motivation? Who should study motivation?
